Process > Final Form

What those trying to convince us all to give our lives, thoughts, choices, creativity over to AI do not understand is something very obvious to anyone who makes things : creating something meaningful is a result of the process - - - not of talent, technical, or operational ability singularly. Our ideas are the result of an accumulation of unique personal inputs and experiences that shape our perspectives and - - - more importantly - - - the internal recombination of them. The best ideas come from our unique internal swirl.

And these ideas get a unique final form only from the process an individual human takes them through. This isn't incidental, or a hindrance. This process is influenced by individual creative choices, developed tastes and preferences, skills and craft cultivated over time, and a unique connection and perception of the wider cultural and community context these ideas become real within. The individual choices one makes throughout the process IS the act of creating anything. Remove those choices, and the time it takes to make good ones, and you haven't accelerated the act of creation you’ve just replaced it with the act of mass manufacturing.

How you do something not only matters, it influences the end result more than anything else. So when AI generates an idea for you, compresses the process into seconds for you, makes all of your choices for you, and spits out a finished product for you - - - whether that is something you want to make, something you want to grow, or something you want to become - - - you are not creating anything. The emptiness left by the absence of human touch and the individual expression that infuses all things created with meaning is not subtle, it’s obvious.

Pedestaling speed or the final product over process is missing the point of creating anything entirely. And doing so only ensures that final product feels like nothing.

Why on earth would I want to do that?
