SERIES.001
2026 | ink and watercolor on paper

about the series

is a series of paintings born from a period of personal inquiry into the true meaning of freedom and reflection on the challenging choice moments along the path towards it where we’re asked to decide between old comforts and new freedoms.

Currently numbered at 9 pieces, the series is on-going, much like the pursuit of freedom and this process itself.

Made by human hand through the intuitive guidance of water and ink, using Korean inks traditionally reserved for writing and calligraphy, each of the nine pieces in the series depicts the free creative spirit in a different forms - - - in movement, in rest, in recovery.

No more than five ink colors were used in any single piece, yet each result holds far more colors, tones, and shades than could ever have been predicted through a more logical, controlled approach.

The process behind this series, like life and like creation, was about trusting the flow:

letting the materials, pigments, and inks become what they wanted to be, and guiding rather than forcing.

As such, each finished piece is entirely unique and can never be replicated in its exact, finished form. Not even by me.

This series is an interpretation of the internal, unique spirit that lives in each of us, asking and waiting to be set free; to be chosen by us, over and over again.

I reconnect with this imagery whenever I find myself in need of a reminder of the freedom waiting on the other side of a momentary battle.

Each time I do, I reconnect with my own spirit. I renew my devotion.

And every time, I choose to let fly free.

I hope it can do the same for you.
